The British Lion mark explained
All Class A eggs have to be marked with a code showing the type of farming system, country of origin and farm production unit. The “red lion” egg stamp and code is explained in the graphic, below.

First part, a number denoting the Farming Method:
Second part, characters showing the Country of Origin (e.g., UK)
Third part, a numeric code denoting the actual farm where the eggs were produced (e.g., 54321)
The characters 'BB' (meaning 'Best Before'), followed by the best before date (e.g., 15APR)
To the left of the code is a graphic of a Lion, showing that the egg is from hens vaccinated against Salmonella and produced to a strict Code of Practice
