Runny eggs are safe for everyone!

As stated by the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC), there is no need for you to worry about eating runny eggs anymore, whomever you are. Runny eggs are safe for young children, pregnant women and the elderly along with providing a lovely breakfast option for everyone else! (Check out our recipes page for inspiration).

It was believed for a long time that runny eggs were a high-risk food as they may have caused salmonella. This is not the case thanks to the work of the Food Standards Agency (FSA). Due to the scare of salmonella and eggs in 1988, raw and runny eggs were off the menu for a lot of people but a review on advice in 2017 saw a change of heart. Eggs with the British Lion Quality symbol are now listed to be safe for pregnant women, babies and the elderly.

A great source of nutrition and a tasty treat all the same, eggs are an ideal part of a healthy and balanced diet. Rich in essential vitamins like B2, B12 and vitamin D, along with selenium, iodine and folate (amongst plenty of others, of course). Folate is of particular importance to pregnant women by assisting cell division and helping new tissues to grow.
