Our Story

We’re a family business supplying top quality free range eggs to supermarkets, wholesalers and through our on-site shop. We work with many of the best sustainable local farms to bring the finest, freshest, free-range eggs to all parts of Wales and beyond.

Fried eggs, when prepared correctly, hold very little of the oil or fat used to prepare them.

Our Hens

All our Producers are contracted to us so we know how well they look after their hens.

Hens are hatched and stay in the hatchery until they are aged 16–17 weeks old. During their time in the hatchery they’re fed on a nutritious balanced diet and have all their vaccinations e.g. Salmonella as per APHA and BEIC guidelines. When they’re ready, the hens are moved to the free-range farms to start their new life.

The colour of the shell is down to the breed of the hen not the feather colour

Meet our Producers

All our farms are family owned and run and are based in Wales – therefore reducing transport miles that the eggs undertake. The eggs are received in our Packing Centre within hours and are graded/packed and on their way to our customers. The farms all have cold storage areas to store the eggs safely, securely and at the correct temperature until they are collected by our drivers.

All our farms are BEIC (Lion Quality), RSPCA approved and follow strict guidelines of the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). Prior to the chicks being moved to the farm their hen house is regularly cleaned and swabs sent for Salmonella testing as per APHA and BEIC guidelines.

The flocks of hens are able to roam free in the pastures and if they choose to stay indoors they can, this is their choice. You can check our producers are registered by looking at the 1UK number printed on the egg (this is food friendly ink which is in red). The 1UK number is a unique number registering the farm and producer with BEIC and APHA, if you check this link lioneggfarms.co.uk using the 1UK code the egg can then be traced.
